Two alumni have co-founded a free men’s health clinic in Bermuda that screens for prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease. The Daily Male clinic, which launched on 4 February 2023 (World Cancer Day), targets at-risk men over 60 who have no health insurance or are underinsured. They have screening days well into the summer, are currently looking to get a healthcare bus to go into underserved areas and are applying for charity status.
Andrew appeared on the short ITV documentary series Cold Case Forensics where he explained how his forensic work was instrumental in the solving of the 1992 Rachel Nickell murder (and showing that Colin Stagg wasn’t responsible). In a separate episode, Andrew and the team were able to show that the Cardiff Three were not responsible for the murder of Lynette White in 1987 and how the innovative DNA approaches that he developed were used to track down the true offender.
Anthony has become a trustee of the Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV), with special responsibility for radio. VLV campaigns for the preservation of public service broadcasting, which includes the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, all of whom are regulated by OFCOM, unlike streaming services such as Netflix. With the BBC Charter expiring in 2027, and the future of the license fee in doubt, the Corporation is facing an uncertain future. Read more about VLV: vlv.org.uk
This former Dean of King’s (1981–87) has written his autobiography, The Shaping of a Soul: A life taken by surprise. Lord Harries describes his life from the time of being called to ordination to his wider broadcasting and writing. He reflects that his time at King’s was one of the most fruitful, when he was deeply involved in the issue of nuclear weapons and glad to have colleagues in the Department of War Studies.
Dr Price is a prosthodontist who has been teaching at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada, since 1984. In 2019, he received the International Association for Dental Research’s Dental Materials Group Peyton-Skinner Award and in February 2023, he was awarded the Hollenback Prize from the American Academy of Operative Dentistry. Dr Price is actively involved in research on digital dentistry, dental resins and curing lights. Dr Price has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and maintains an active YouTube channel.
Meghna is the President of Whistling Woods International, India’s premier Film, Communication & Creative Arts Institute. Meghna was conferred as one of the ‘75 at 75’ Achievers in the Education, Science and Innovation category at the India-UK Achievers Honours by the National Indian Students Alumni Union UK (NISAU) and the British Council.
Joe was selected to be part of the Ice Warrior flagship expedition – #LastPole – to reach the Northern Pole of Inaccessibility. Defined as the furthest point from land on the Arctic Ocean and therefore its centre, it remains the last truly significant place yet to be reached by humankind. The adventure will be led by world-renowned polar explorer, Jim McNeill. In January 2023, Joe completed his polar training in Svalbard, Norway. Read more.
Jimmy is a university lecturer, a high-performance coach, a hypnotherapist and an NLP trainer. He is also a committee member, communications officer and Co-Chair-Elect for the North West of England branch of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and editor of the BPS’s North of England Bulletin. Jimmy is a candidate for the position of President-Elect for the BPS in 2023–24. Voting closed in March. The successful candidate will be announced in July.
Shreya Kalyanasundaram struck Bronze for her engineering research and display at STEM for BRITAIN, a poster competition in the House of Commons for early-stage or early-career researchers. The competition is judged by professional and academic experts. It aims to help politicians understand more about the UK’s thriving science and engineering base and rewards some of the strongest scientific and engineering research being undertaken in the UK.
